The sixth annual Black Duck Open Source Rookies of the Year awards recognize the top open source projects initiated in the past year. This year's honorees span cloud computing, software virtualization, privacy, social media, and the Internet of things. The selection is based on statistics gathered from Black Duck's Ohloh site, the leading open source software directory, using such metrics as the total number of commits and commiters, the distribution of commits across committers, and social media traffic.
